Household Waste
Household Waste

The Vale of the White Horse District Council provides 'green boxes' for the collection of recyclable materials ie paper, glass, plastic bottles, cans, clothes and shoes, aluminium foil, batteries, aerosols and mobile phones.  In Radley, green boxes are normally collected on Mondays - usually quite early. Collections at Woodlands, Pebble Hill and Bigwood are on Wednesdays.

Other small domestic waste is collected on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays depending on your road.

All bins and boxes should be at the kerbside by 7 am.  There are no collections on public holidays - the collections catch up after a week or so by making Saturday visits.

The Vale has introduced a Brown Bin scheme for the garden waste and cardboard.  Brown wheely bins are collected every fortnight.  More detail via the Vale website .Click here for the collection schedule until March 2010! This costs £29 per year - NOTE - this will increase to £33 per year from 1 April 2008.

Please don't put any plastic materials at all in your brown bin.  It could cause the load to be rejected and sent to landfill at extra cost.

Many things can be taken to a Waste Reception Centre.  The nearest to Radley is at Redbridge at the bottom end of the Abingdon Road in Oxford. (Note you have to approach it via the ring road, not over Redbridge itself.)  The next nearest is at Drayton on the south side on the road to Steventon.  Full details on the waste leaflet - below.

Redbridge is usually open everyday including most public holidays

Mondays to Fridays          8.30-17.30

Saturdays and Sundays   8.30-16.00

To confirm call 01865 815796.

Redbridge will accept three items of large scale DIY waste, eg a bath, a window frame or a tree stump, for free - the next ten items cost £1 each.   Green compostable waste is free.  The service does not apply to trade or business waste, eg where your home improvements are done by a contractor.  There is a leaflet available at Redbridge or call the Oxfordshire County Council Waste team on 08450 504550 or email waste.management@oxfordshire.gov.uk.

The Vale produces a leaflet which gives loads of helpful information on how to take care of waste.  It gives details of what should be disposed of where.

The leaflet also has an order form for green boxes and details the brown bin scheme and an offer on composters.   Click on the image to the right to download a copy.  It is a large (2.1MB) Acrobat file.

More information is available on the Vale's website.  Click on the logo below.

Waste Strategy

Oxfordshire County Council has a strategy to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Fly Tipping - your responsibilities

Are you aware that under new regulations, YOU have a duty of care to ensure your waste is only passed on to authorised carriers.  If waste that originated from YOU is found to have been fly tipped, then YOU could face a fine of up to £5,000.  (Defra Press Notice 517/05 www.defra.gov.uk)

You can check if your waste carrier is registered by searching at

http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/publicregister

If you are aware of any fly tipping, please call the Environment Agency Helpline
