Radley Parish Council

Radley Parish Council has a long history dating back to 1894. It now functions under the Local Government Act 1972 and is a tier below the Vale of White Horse District Council and Oxfordshire County Council.

The Parish Council is your local voice. Please contact any of your Councillors or the Clerk about any issue relating to our village.

Meetings

Radley Parish Council meets on the fourth Thursday of every month on these dates in the Church Room. Members of the public are welcome to attend the meetings and may speak during the first 10 minutes if invited to do so by the chairman. Here is a summary of our last meeting and the minutes of recent meetings. The Annual Parish Meeting, open to all electors in the parish, is held between 1 March and 1 June. The Council elects its Chairman for the coming year at its Annual Meeting, held in May.

Councillors

The number of Councillors depends on the size of the Parish. Radley has eleven Councillors, who are unpaid volunteers and members of the local community. The Clerk is a salaried employee of the Parish Council.

Committees and Working Groups

In addition to its main meetings, the Council delegates some of its business to the following Committees and Working Groups:

Planning Applications

The Council makes recommendations on all planning applications in Radley, although final decisions are made by the Vale of White Horse District Council. Different councillors take responsibility for planning in each area of the village. Some councillors act as representatives for different organisations in the village.

Funding

To finance its activities the Parish Council receives funding, known as a precept, from the District Council (paid for by part of the council tax).  This money pays amongst other things for the Clerk, the playing field, sports pavilion, play area, maintenance of the village green and Centenary Garden, collection of litter around the village, the garden competition and donations to local groups. Details of the way the money is spent can be seen in the Parish Council accounts.

Garden Competition

This annual event organised by the Parish Council takes place on a Saturday in July.

The Parish Council also asked the Vale of the White Horse District Council to consider the cherry trees by the allotments in Church Road for TPOs, but the Council indicated that it did not think they were suitable candidates for a TPO – they are quite nice but not outstanding and are not under threat of being felled.

Freedom of Information

In December 2008 the Parish Council agreed the information available under the model publication scheme. This was reviewed in 2010.
