Radley shortlisted for Oxfordshire Village of the Year

[posted 16/08/2007, Updated 25/11/2007, 09/12/2007]

Radley is one of 18 villages invited to the judging event for the Calor Oxfordshire Villages of the Year Competition on Saturday 18 August at Kennington Village Hall. Three representatives from the village will be going along to meet the judges and display materials reflecting the character of Radley. The judging event gives us a great opportunity to build on our written entry but also to pick up good ideas from other villages.

The Oxfordshire Village of the Year Competition is organised by Oxfordshire Rural Community Council (ORCC). The Judges will be looking for active, caring and inclusive communities, rewarding community action and community spirit.

An overall County winner and overall district winners (plus runners up) will be selected from the 18 finalists. The winner will be nominated to go forward to represent the county in the Calor Village of the Year for England competition 2007/2008. This will give them the opportunity to gain national recognition as well as a share of a prize fund totalling more than £36,000.

The awards for Oxfordshire will be presented at the ORCC Annual General Meeting on 3 October.

[Update 25/11/2007]

Radley received a Highly-Commended award for Heritage in the competition, which was won by Steeple Aston, with Stanford-in-the-Vale winning the District Village of the Year in the Vale of the White Horse.
