Lakes Public Inquiry adjourned until June

Due
to the large number of witnesses coming forward and
the length of time being taken to hear and cross examine
each witness, the Radley Lakes
Public Inquiry has been adjourned until 11.00am
on 20 June at "a venue to
be notified".
Mr
Charles Mynors QC, Counsel for the Objectors tried
to persuade the Inspector, Mr Vivian Chapman QC, to
impose a guillotine on the hearing of evidence for
the Applicant. He said
"Npower
is concerned about the length of the inquiry and the
constant stream of new witnesses. We don't want to
lose the next three days is a similar way.... There
has to come a point when we move on."
where
"the next three days" refers to the days
20, 21 and 22 June that had already been set aside
to conduct the remainder of the inquiry. However the
inspector was having none of it,
"This
is a case of some complexity"
"There
have, in fact, not been many more witnesses, but it
has taken longer to deal with each one. It would be
dangerous to exclude evidence without due cause...
However there may come a time to call a halt, but
I do not think that time has yet come. "
He
noted the concerns that three more days might not
be enough and accordingly went on to set aside a further
week, that beginning 20 September, in which to wind
up the inquiry, should it not be possible to hear
all the evidence in June.
