Following substantial
objections to their plans to fill the Radley Lakes with
fly ash, RWE Npower have now agreed with Oxfordshire
County Council to put their application on hold, until
January, while they consider their response to the various "technical
issues" that have been raised.
Recently,
the Environment Agency lodged an objection on grounds
of flood risk and inadequate consideration, by the proposal,
of the now-undisputed wildlife value of the site. The
Environment Agency are requiring that Npower carry out
a detailed hydrological survey of ground- and surface-water
flows, on the site, to determine how they will be affected
by the proposed development during times of flood, and
to demonstrate that any increased flooding risk or severity
is acceptable. Also, the proposal is criticised for
its failure to recognise the wildlife value of the site
and to provide adequate plans for mitigation and restoration.
The
application will not now be considered by the
planning committee on 17th October.
