| Radley
History Club was founded by the late Miss Joy Alexander
in May 1997 and now has over 70 members. Its tenth anniversary
was celebrated with an exhibition in Radley Village
Hall on 12-13 May 2007 featuring all aspects of the
history of Radley.
July
2008 saw another exhibition and the launch of a major
new book by Club chairman, Christine Wootton, on the
history of Radley Primary School to add to its publications.
Memories of the school exhibition
The
Club meets on the second Monday evening of each month
(apart from August) at 7.30 pm in the main hall of Radley
Primary School (a new larger venue since September
2006). The Club organises a series of speakers on local
and historical topics for its meetings. In July, a visit
or tour of a local place of interest is often arranged.
New members and guests are welcome. |

The
Club's aims are to:
- study the history of Radley and the
surrounding area
- pursue any historical activity (including
genealogical research) that the members may desire from
time to time.
The
Club has an impressive archive of materials and maps about
the Radley area in the past and the people who lived here.
It is also building up a library of audio recordings of interviews
with older residents telling their memories. A recent grant
from Awards for All has greatly facilitated its work.
Visit
the Club's website

On
the Net: History Clubs — an article in the April
2005 issue of BBC
History Magazine gave Radley History Club's website
as one of two examples providing 'food for thought' when 'looking
to get ideas for your own club'.
Oral
history CDs
- The first project involved interviewing people
with memories of Radley up to and including the 1953 Coronation.
- The second project, which is ongoing, involves
recording people who live in Radley with interesting tales
